Does anybody know why WizKids did this? What's the motivation?
It makes trading harder--card only trades won't be as common.
It makes collecting harder--I have to make sure I have at least one of each rarity to play them all.
It makes playing harder--gotta make sure I pull the right dice when putting together the team.
All of this complication perhaps points to a desire to sell more product, but I don't know that this really accomplishes that other than in the case where someone loses a rare or super-rare die.
Is it some sort of thematic thing with Yu-Gi-Oh, a franchise I know very little about?
This makes me happy.
Also, I'm not considering any potential rule changes with Yu-Gi-OH! to be applicable to Marvel or DC unless WizKids says the rules cross over.
I have a bad feeling this Yu-Gi-OH! release is going to rock the boat that just stabilized.
Can't say I agree with this - I think this set will appear to fans of Yu-Gi-Oh and hopefully will bring more people into the game. Meaning that hopefully some YGO players who end up liking the gameplay will want to participate in tourney play and cross over to the hero-based OP events, rather than the other way around. Overall I think it's good because this expands the base of players. Age of Ultron will be awesome, but it's not going to attract any NEW people because you already got the Marvel fans with the Uncanny set.
My only guess is it could be something the guys at YGO wanted to help against counterfeit cards - but that doesn't seem to be a problem in DM as of yet.

ReplyDeleteAll the yugioh players that I've gotten into this game don't like the idea of this set, most of them bash on the idea.
ReplyDeleteThat's ok. I bash on YGO players as often as I can...
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty well counter to the spirit of TRP. We're happy to have everyone playing Dice Masters, regardless of the set they prefer.
