Shipping Woes and Release Timelines: The Coast Strikes Again

My starter set is in...one of those crates!
Today I received a Facebook message from my FLGS owner.  She sent it to me as a courtesy so that we could rethink our Draft/Constructed/Hybrid Tournament format for this month's Dice Masters OP.  Here's what the message read:

"At this time, Dungeons & Dragons Battle for Faerûn Dice Masters will move to March TBD. The two containers needed are still on the vessel at the west coast port. Until the dispute over a new contract for port workers in resolved, delays will continue affecting any merchandise manufactured in Asia."

Ugh.  I don't begrudge WizKids in the least for this because I understand that it's completely out of their control.  Having said that, though, I'm interested to know the TRP community-at-large's collective opinion on this subject.  Do you think these kind of delays at this point in the game can have an effect on growth?  A lot of folks have discussed at length about how negatively the AvX distribution issues affected the early popularity and growth of the game.  Then the community gave a collective sigh of relief as we got Uncanny X-Men pretty much on time and when Yu-Gi-Oh! dropped right as scheduled.  It appeared that the game would finally get its wings.

Will the delay of the D&D set push the DC: Justice League release back as well?  How will that affect Age of Ultron - or will it?  I don't know for sure, but it seems like many early opinions are suggesting that this could be a good thing.  It could be a time to put the breaks on set collection and instead focus on what UXM and YGO Dice Masters might still be hiding.

In any case, I've raised a lot of questions.  What're your thoughts - I'd love to hear them below.

Until next time!

- Chris

  1. Good news is China has put their foot down and gave them 2 weeks to resolve the strike situation or they'll shut down the port. California currently loses $2 billion dollars a day and if it isn't finalized all product in the future will go through Houston, Texas. With Justice League there won't be that much of a delay and come out in late March/early April at the latest, since ships will know where to go by then.

  2. I feel that a delay is needed. I think they were rushing the public to buy new sets without any time to actually play the game. If D&D and DC released when they were supposed to it would have been 3 sets within 2 months. I decided against buying YGO because there was only a month before D&D released. I would have been buying a new set before even getting a chance to play the previous game. I would still like to see a little longer delay on the next 2 sets to allow people to play and learn the new meta, before a whole new set drops.
